Margaret River has a maritime climate and is located right next to the Indian Ocean. The region is less well known compared to its more famous Australian cousins of Barossa, Coonawarra, and Yarra Valley. However, with a style similar to France, these wines are becoming increasingly popular. Moss Wood is distinguished by its use of exceptional fruit, being extremely elegant, with refined tannins and full of character. It was founded in 1969 and has been run by Clare and Keith Mugford since 1985. Claire and Keith are focused on quality and producing wines which best represent the terroir. They own both Moss Wood and Ribbon Vale Vineyard, where they produce their world-famous Cabernet Sauvignon along with other Bordeaux and Burgundy varietals. Their Cabernet is as classic as it comes, and is how Cabernet should taste, and their Chardonnay ages like a Meursault! Their wines use screwcap and have the ability to age for decades, a rarity in the New World.
