Review
The Pact from Faust is located in Coombsville characterized by its white volcanic ash and red volcanic soil, this feels old school yet not too austere in nature. Coombsville is currently my favourite sub-AVA in Napa and one I need to dive more into: Realm, Favia etc. The nose is very elegant and initially muted with quiet notes of crushed florals, red berries, unsmoked tobacco, allspice and fresh earth. The palate has notes of restrained dark red fruit, currants and a wonderful savoury texture. The palate is certainly old school in style, yet with bright red fruit, savoury herbs, and crushed stones flooding the palate. The tannins are soft and alluring, along with an old-world elegance and a touch of spice that coats the palate culminating in a long silky finish.
