The tale of Alexander Valley Vineyards unfolds in 1962 when Harry and Maggie Wetzel acquired their initial parcel of land in North Sonoma County. By 1966, they had cultivated Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Chenin Blanc, Riesling, and Gewürztraminer. Variety was pivotal in comprehending the intricacies of their estate vineyards. In 1968, they produced their inaugural Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that continues to define their reputation today. In 1984, Alexander Valley Vineyards played a role in establishing the AVA of the region: Alexander Valley AVA. Presently, the estate is overseen by Hank and Linda Wetzel, along with other family members, diligently carrying forth Harry and Maggie’s vision. With ownership of over 700 acres across Alexander Valley, the family crafts a diverse range of wines from Sauvignon Blanc to Zinfandel to Cabernet Sauvignon – all estate-grown, all exquisite, and all exceeding their price point. Notably, these wines gracefully age for up to 20 years while remaining enjoyable upon release.
